We held the 2nd China-Caribbean Business Conference and the 2nd Annual Meeting of the China-Caribbean Joint Business Council in the beautiful city of Xiamen, China on September 7, 2007. We had in-depth discussions on issues of common interest, and reached broad consensus. We hereby declare:
1. We fully acknowledge the successful commencement and achievement of the 2nd China-Caribbean Business Conference and the 2nd Annual Meeting of the China-Caribbean Joint Business Council. As an important cooperation mechanism and a hi-level meeting for the Chinese and the Caribbean business communities, the China-Caribbean Business Conference will be a forum event for businesses, trade promotion organizations and relevant government agencies/ departments in China and the Caribbean, a forum for closer interaction between governments and businesses, and a platform to represent the voices of the business communities. It is to exert far-reaching impact on the cooperation between China and the Caribbean nations.
2. Globalization and the dawning of the Information Age raise vast development opportunities as well as new challenges for China and the Caribbean nations. The national business associations in China and the Caribbean, as key trade and investment promotion organizations, will shoulder shared responsibilities in fostering the communication between governments and businesses, cooperation among businesses, and the joint development of economies.
3. We are convinced of the solid foundation for the organizational cooperation of Chinese and Caribbean Business associations, and agree in consensus to the promotion of long-term, stable and sustainable cooperative relationships to serve the businesses and seek common development, guided by the principles of voluntary participation, equal-footing and mutual benefit, market orientation, and pursuit of win-win outcomes. We are committed to conducting the cooperation in a phased approach, by solving the easier problems first, and then handling the more difficult ones, so as to expand the breadth and depth of our cooperation.
4. To give full play to the essential role of the business associations within the China-Caribbean cooperation sphere, we hereby pledge to carry out broad and pragmatic cooperation and communication in the following areas:
4.1 To organize, as a supporting organization for the China-Caribbean Business Conference, home business associations, businesses, scholars and experts to participate in the China-Caribbean Business Conference.
4.2 To strengthen communication and engagement by exchanging business delegations and personnel, arranging project missions and training programs, and facilitating road shows, investment seminars, and international project and investment invitation activities.
4.3 To cooperate closely to organize and host expositions, high-profile forums, specialized exhibitions, workshops and one-on-one meetings for stronger business ties.
4.4 To introduce national or regional environment and policies for investment, recommend association members, businesses, and economic and trade organizations, and strengthen information exchange in the field of economy, trade, finance, investment, technologies, tourism and markets.
4.5 To strengthen collaboration in personnel exchange, human resource training, journal publication, legal service, culture and education, news and media, public health, tourism and sport, and constantly seek new areas for cooperation.
4.6 To construct an information platform for all China-Caribbean business associations and businesses, and realize information connections, based on individual association websites, working with the China-Caribbean Business Conference, and establishing and improving website linkages among the associations.
5. We feel in consensus the need to expand conduits for more effective cooperation. In this regard, we resolve to hold working meetings of the China-Caribbean Joint Business Council in conjunction with each China-Caribbean Business Conference, to study, plan, coordinate and implement cooperation with those currently being undertaken and those proclaimed in this declaration, and submit to the China-Caribbean Business Conference its development report.
6. The member organizations of the China-Caribbean Joint Business Council shall report regularly to economic and trade authorities of their respective country about the work of Council, and seek their necessary support.
