Brief Introduction of Economic and Trade Ties between China and Antigua and Barbuda

China established diplomatic relationship with Antigua and Barbuda on 1 Jan. 1983. Since then the economic and trade cooperation between both countries has progressed smoothly.

Bilateral trade

According to the statistics from China Customs, the bilateral trade volume which was mostly contributed by China export stood at USD161 million in 2006, up 9.64% year-on-year. The bilateral trade volume was mainly in the form of China export during the first half of 2007, reaching USD98.362 million, increasing by 31.9% over the same period of the previous year.

The main products exported from China to Antigua and Barbuda include watercraft, textile, household appliance, plastics & rubber, mineral fuel, etc.

Economic cooperation for mutual benefit

China has started project engineering and labor service cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda since 1985. As the MOFCOM statistics shows, by the end of June 2007 China had achieved a turnover of USD 148 million for project engineering and labor service in Antigua and Barbuda.

By the end of June 2007, China had invested USD400,000 accumulatively in Antigua and Barbuda. Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbudathe had investment in China with an actual input of USD390,000.
